On July 1st 2023, farm-to-consumer raw milk sales will become legal in the State of Iowa.
Raw milk farms in Iowa
Farmers who have wanted to sell raw milk in Iowa are now coming online and adding themselves to the map in waiting for the law take effect. Here’s a list of raw milk farmers on the map so far.
BAJ Farm is ready to sell raw milk in Springville, IA. Their farm is approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes from Davenport, IA by car and 45 minutes from Iowa City. They offer jersey cow milk. You can follow them on Instagram.

Tosche Supply Co. is ready to sell raw milk in Lorimor, IA. Their farm is approximately 1 hour south of Des Moines. They offer raw goat milk. You can follow them on Facebook and Instagram.
Cedarwood Farm is ready to sell raw jersey milk in Whittier, IA. Their farm is 25 minutes northeast of Cedar Rapids.
De Melkerij is a herdshare that offers raw a2/a2 cow milk in Harlan, IA. Their farm is approximately 1 hour northeast of Omaha, NE by car and 90 minutes west of Des Moines.
Cottonwood Hill Farms
Cottonwood Hill Farms is a herdshare that offers 100% grass-fed jersey cow milk in McClelland, IA. Their farm is approximately 25 minutes from Omaha, NE by car and 1 hour 45 minutes west of Des Moines. You can follow them on Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube.
Eden Ridge Acres
Eden Ridge Acres offers raw milk 15 minutes south of West Des Moines. Their raw milk Jersey cows are A2/A2 registered, grass-fed on pasture, supplemented with GMO-free sprouted grains, high-quality hay in the winter months, and a small amount of organic oats for treats during milking. Atkins Raw Milk Dairy
Atkins Raw Milk Dairy offers raw milk 25 minutes west of Cedar Rapids, IA. They are a family farm who has been producing milk in the Atkins area for over a hundred years. They offer raw milk by the 1/2 gal from their herd of A2/A2 cows. You can follow them on Facebook and Instagram.
Food safety requirements
Under the new law, farmers will be required to take steps to test and preserve milk quality.
- Raw milk must be stored below 45ºF.
- Raw milk must be sold within 7 days.
- Animals must be tested for bacterial infections.
Labeling is also required to inform customers that the milk has not been pasteurized.
Notice to Consumers – This container holds raw milk that is not subject to state inspection or other public health regulations that require pasteurization and grading.
Welcome to legal raw milk, Iowa!
A long list of food processors lost. Iowa farmers and consumers won access to direct farm-to-consumer sales, which were prohibited before this law was enacted. Farms, co-ops, homesteaders, and more can now offer milk to their communities without mandatory middlemen affecting the transaction. Great work!
