Description
California's largest raw milk dairy, selling raw milk, cream, and butter in Sprouts stores statewide, with cheese shipped nationwide from its Fresno farm.
A fifth-generation family dairy
Raw Farm was founded in 1999 by Mark McAfee, alongside his brothers, with a mission to build the most pasture-based dairy he could on his family's land near Fresno. It remains fully family-run: Mark's son Aaron McAfee serves as president and oversees the herd and food safety plan, while daughter Kaleigh Stanziani leads marketing and her husband Josh Stanziani runs sales and distribution.
From a private milk club to the country's largest raw dairy
Before Organic Pastures existed, McAfee was producing pasteurized milk for the dairy cooperative Organic Valley. In the early 2000s, a raw milk enthusiast named James Stewart, who ran a private food club in Venice, Los Angeles, asked McAfee for a steady raw milk supply. That relationship pushed McAfee into raw dairy production, and the farm grew from there into what is now the largest raw milk producer in the United States. The company rebranded from Organic Pastures to Raw Farm in 2020.
Setting an industry standard
In 2011, McAfee founded the Raw Milk Institute (RAWMI), a nonprofit that trains and certifies raw dairies on risk-reduction practices, "grass to glass." It remains one of the primary certification bodies for raw milk producers in the US and abroad.
Truly Raw Cheddar goes national
Federal law confines raw milk and raw butter sales to California, but Raw Farm's aged Truly Raw Cheddar Cheese qualifies for interstate shipping and is now sold in all 50 states, alongside the farm's California-only raw milk, cream, butter, and kefir line.
Also sells beef.
