On this stubborn cusp of winter and spring in 2022, election season right around the corner, the mask mandate was just lifted in Washington state.
Here’s a rare meme related to masks and Aajonus Vonderplanitz, early leader of the modern raw milk resurgence.
Aajonus Vonderplanitz wore a mask
Did you know that Aajonus Vonderplanitz wore a mask? It’s true! Specifically while traveling on planes.
This was his masking procedure:
- Organic cotton mask, many layers, on the face
- Organic cotton handkerchief folded 12 layers thick placed directly over the nose
- Organic cotton mask on top of the folded handkerchief
Masking up was an effort of AV to avoid toxic vapors, primarily benzene, while traveling. He said he never experienced jet lag and attributed this mask routine as his go-to protection.

From Springer Nature published on BioMed Central: A review of health effects associated with exposure to jet engine emissions in and around airports
We conclude that though the literature is scarce and with low consistency in methods and measured biomarkers, there is evidence that jet engine emissions have physicochemical properties similar to diesel exhaust particles, and that exposure to jet engine emissions is associated with similar adverse health effects as exposure to diesel exhaust particles and other traffic emissions… read more
The FAA says they need more money to do the research: Aircraft Cabin Bleed Air Contaminants: A Review
Quantification of the potential health risks associated with
exposure to bleed-air contaminants in cabin air is not possible
without broad identification and measurement of the representative hazardous constituents of bleed air during contaminated air
events. Included in the 2012 mandate (Public Law 112-95) is
the directive to the FAA to “assess bleed air quality on the full
range of commercial aircraft operating in the United States.”
Carrying out such a mandate requires adequate funding to support research activities… read more
