Two major platform updates were just added to streamline the process of finding raw milk butter and cheese. The new category-specific maps and enhanced search functionality enable visitors to discover local dairy sources more efficiently.
Dedicated Category Maps for Butter and Cheese
The platform now offers dedicated maps for both butter and cheese alongside the existing global raw milk maps. These specialized views allow visitors to locate:
- Local raw milk cheese producers
- Artisan butter makers
- Farm-direct dairy products
- Cheese from multiple species including cow, goat, sheep, and buffalo
Cheese Map Implementation Details
The cheese map is currently operating in a transition phase. To ensure comprehensive coverage during the initial rollout, the map displays all listings that contain “cheese” in their descriptions. This approach currently includes approximately 15 farms with phrases such as “good for cheese making” in their profiles. These listings don’t have cheese available and will be filtered out as more farms properly categorize their offerings using the cheese checkbox.
Notice for Dairy Producers and Retailers: As more locations update their listings to include the new cheese category checkboxes, the map will transition to displaying only verified cheese producers. Dairy producers are encouraged to update their listings promptly, as the category checkboxes will become a required field for appearing on the cheese map.
Improved Search Capabilities
The search page now includes a dropdown menu that enables visitors to filter results by specific categories. The enhanced search interface allows for quick filtering by raw milk, cheese, butter, or dairy from a specific animal species.
Multi-Species Dairy Product Support
The cheese and butter maps encompass products from all major dairy species:
- Cow milk dairy products
- Goat milk cheese and butter
- Sheep milk dairy
- Buffalo milk cheese (including traditional mozzarella di bufala)
Producer Listing Updates
Dairy farmers, cheese makers, and butter producers can ensure their listings appear in the appropriate categories by accessing their update forms and selecting the relevant checkboxes. This step ensures visibility through the new category-specific maps.
