Legal Status & Regulations
Qatar's food safety framework is administered by the Ministry of Public Health (MOPH), Food Safety Department, under Food Law No. 8 of 1990. Qatar follows GCC/GSO harmonized standards including GSO 984:2015, requiring pasteurization for all commercially sold consumer milk. No formal consumer retail pathway for raw milk has been identified.
Qatar's dairy import requirements mandate OIE-certified country of origin for animal products. The commercial dairy sector, including local production from companies such as Baladna, is fully pasteurized. A brucellosis outbreak linked to raw camel milk consumption has been documented in GCC regional health literature, confirming that informal raw camel milk consumption occurs, but this is not a licensed distribution channel.
