Legal Status & Regulations
Finland permits the retail sale of packaged raw milk in shops, making it the most permissive of the Nordic countries. Raw milk is stocked in major supermarket chains including K-citymarket and Prisma outlets, where it is sold under the name raakamaito. The Finnish Food Authority (Ruokavirasto) oversees milk product standards and food safety compliance for raw milk producers.
Online or distance selling of raw milk requires the customer to collect the product directly from the dairy farm. Raw milk is defined under Finnish food regulations as milk that has not been heated above 40°C or subjected to treatment of equivalent effect.
