Update

Legal Status & Regulations

Sweden permits farm-gate sales of raw milk by producers registered with their local authorities. Farms may sell or give away up to 70 litres of unpasteurised milk per week directly to consumers. Producers must provide a written warning that the milk "may contain harmful bacteria" and should be boiled or heat-treated before consumption. Sale through retail shops or any off-farm channel is not permitted.

The Swedish Food Agency (Livsmedelsverket) maintains a cautious public health position on raw milk but supports the limited farm-gate model as a regulated option. The low annual volume of reported illness is cited as evidence that the controlled approach is effective.
