Greece Raw Milk Laws & Regulations

Commercial pasteurization required under national food law. Direct farm sales and informal retail are widely practiced in rural areas with minimal enforcement.

Legal Status & Regulations

Greek food safety regulations require pasteurization of fluid milk sold commercially. However, direct farm sales of raw milk, particularly raw goat and sheep milk, are widely practiced in rural areas with minimal enforcement action. Informal sales from small producers to local consumers occur across the country, particularly in agricultural regions, without a formal registration or authorization framework.

This situation is comparable to other countries where formal legal pathways for consumer raw milk sales are absent but consumer access persists through informal channels. EU Regulation (EC) No 853/2004 provides the baseline European framework.
