Prince Edward Island is Canada's smallest province by area with a dairy sector concentrated in a small number of operations, and its rules channel all raw milk into licensed processing.
Under the Dairy Industry Act and its regulations, no person shall sell unpasteurized milk or unpasteurized milk products except to the holder of a licence for a milk processing plant, to the operator of a plant licensed by the Government of Canada, or to Dairy Farmers of Prince Edward Island. The permitted buyers are all processors or the marketing board, so there is no configuration in which a consumer is a lawful recipient.
Pasteurization standards are set out in the Milk Processing Regulations (P.E.I. Reg. EC417/12), which require licence holders to meet prescribed standards during processing and incorporate federal inspection guidance. The Public Health Act gives the Chief Public Health Officer authority over milk products failing to meet applicable standards.
There is no legal source of raw drinking milk on Prince Edward Island, and no herdshare or on-farm sales exemption. Aged raw milk cheese is legal under the federal 60 day rule. For the national picture, see the Canada raw milk laws overview.
