Legal Status & Regulations

Sint Eustatius (also known as Statia) is a special municipality of the Netherlands in the northeastern Caribbean Sea. Since 2010 it has been a special municipality of the Netherlands proper. Dutch administrative law applies, though Sint Eustatius is classified as an Overseas Country and Territory (OCT) in relation to the EU.

Sint Eustatius is a small island with a limited agricultural sector. Local dairy production is minimal. Food safety standards are informed by Dutch regulations, with enforcement reflecting the island's small economy and population.
