Austria Raw Milk Laws & Regulations

Legal at farm gate and through farm vending machines. A visible notice that raw milk should be boiled before consumption is required.

Update

Legal Status & Regulations

Austria permits the sale of raw milk (Rohmilch) directly from farms and through farm vending machines. Vending machines are common in rural areas and increasingly found in towns. Austrian food law requires a clearly visible notice at the point of sale stating "Rohmilch, vor dem Verzehr abkochen" (Raw milk, boil before consumption). The Austrian Agency for Health and Food Safety (AGES) conducts routine sampling of vending machine milk.

Producers must comply with EU Regulation (EC) No 853/2004 hygiene requirements, including animal health conditions, milking hygiene, and temperature controls. Herd TB and brucellosis status requirements apply.
