Legal at farm or licensed farm-gate outlets. Strict monthly microbiological testing, mandatory labeling, and a biennial Raw-Milk Operator certificate required.

Update

Legal Status & Regulations

Italy permits the sale of raw milk directly at the farm or through licensed farm-gate outlets. Italy has a history of raw milk vending machines (distributori automatici di latte crudo) and continues to permit farm-direct sales under a structured compliance framework. Producers must obtain and renew a Raw-Milk Operator certificate every two years.

Monthly microbiological testing by an accredited laboratory is mandatory, with results uploaded to a national portal within 48 hours. Raw milk must carry bold labeling indicating it is not pasteurized, with a health warning and a QR code. Strict microbiological limits apply. Non-compliance can result in fines or closure of the sales point.
