In practice, raw milk is extensively sold at informal bazaars and street markets throughout Kazakhstan. FAO assessments have found that street milk and milk products marketed in informal markets are outside all formal control, with no accredited laboratories for routine market surveillance, inspections carried out only on demand or when a problem is suspected, and only licensed dairies subject to regular oversight. The informal raw milk sector is large and operates largely outside the regulatory framework.
