Turkmenistan Raw Milk Laws & Regulations
No confirmed ban on raw milk sales; regulated by national standards based on Soviet-era GOST norms administered by Turkmenstandart. Traditional camel milk (chal) is culturally significant and widely produced and consumed.
Legal Status & Regulations
No explicit prohibition on raw milk sales has been identified in available sources for Turkmenistan. The food safety framework is administered by Turkmenstandart (State Committee for Standardization, Metrology, and Certification) and the State Sanitary and Epidemiological Inspectorate (SSEI) under the Ministry of Health, which issues sanitary certificates of conformity for food products. Standards are largely based on Soviet-era GOST norms. Turkmenistan is not a member of the Eurasian Economic Union.
Reliable English-language documentation of specific dairy regulations is limited due to Turkmenistan's restricted information environment. Dairy production accounts for a significant share of domestic agricultural output. Traditional fermented camel milk known as chal (or shal), produced and consumed raw or lightly fermented, is a nationally significant product with deep cultural roots. Virtually all aspects of food production and distribution are formally regulated, but the state has limited capacity to enforce standards outside licensed industrial operations.
