Kyrgyzstan has no explicit national prohibition on raw milk retail or farm-direct sales. As a member of the Eurasian Economic Union (since January 2015), the Technical Regulation TR CU 033/2013 "On the Safety of Milk and Dairy Products" is the primary applicable framework for dairy products in circulation. The domestic food safety framework is established by the Law on Safety of Food Products and updated technical regulations.
Raw milk is very widely sold at markets throughout Kyrgyzstan. The country is a significant producer and informal exporter of raw milk to Kazakhstan, with veterinary services formally authorizing approximately 50,000 liters per day for cross-border export while estimates suggest up to 100,000 liters per day move informally. Enforcement of formal safety standards in domestic market stalls is limited. Traditional fermented dairy products including kymyz (fermented mare's milk) are central to Kyrgyz culture and consumed fresh or lightly fermented.
