Update

Legal Status & Regulations

Slovenia has one of the most developed raw milk distribution networks in Europe. Refrigerated raw milk vending machines (mlekomat) have been in operation since 2010, with over 100 registered locations nationwide. Raw milk became available in retail shops from 2018, making Slovenia one of the few countries with confirmed broad retail access alongside farm and vending machine channels.

Mlekomat machines operate under strict controls: milk must be replaced daily, maintained at low temperature, and is subject to regular inspections. The legal framework rests on EU Regulation (EC) No 853/2004 as applied in Slovenia under the oversight of the Administration for Food Safety, Veterinary Sector and Plant Protection (UVHVVR).
